Bruichladdich (pronounced as “brook-laddie”) is situated on the Rhinns of Islay which is a peninsula on the western part of the isle of Islay. Bruichladdich is well known as the smoother of the Islay whiskies which are better known for their smoky and peaty character. The Bere Barley series by Bruichladdich refers to the heritage Barley used to make this spirit, supplied by the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College. The Heritage Barley gives us an opportunity to taste whisky made from the same species of grains as when whisky was first made over 300 years ago. Upon opening this bottle the aromas of citrus fruit, wildflower meadows, honey and grass, and the palate are sea spray, vanilla, honey and spice with a medium long finish of cereals, vanilla, and sharp spice.
