Own an entire cask of Miltonduff single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in 2011 and maturing in a bonded warehouse in Scotland. A complete bourbon barrel of Speyside single malt, held in bond and ready to keep maturing, be bottled to your own specification, or held as an asset. Miltonduff is a classic Speyside workhorse long associated with Ballantine’s, and official bottlings are rare – a full private cask offers real flexibility and long-term potential.

Tasting notes
Nose: Spirit-forward, with dustings of oak and vanilla in support. Acetone, pear drops and nail polish underpinned by vanilla, baking spice, black pepper and dried coconut; persistence reveals pineapple, mango chews and floral heather. Water brings a more rounded affair.
Palate: A medium mouthfeel led by floral lavender, pear drops and a linear spice from oak shavings that hums on the tongue. Added water encourages more tropical fruit and a fine balance between spirit and cask.
Finish: Mellowing and medium-long, the initial spice dissipating into soft watermelon and a touch of thin custard.
This is a private bottling: a single malt bottled privately by its owner, not an official distillery release.
How cask ownership works
This cask is sold in bond, meaning it is stored in an HMRC-approved bonded warehouse in Scotland with UK excise duty and VAT suspended until the whisky is bottled or removed from bond. Owning a cask in bond lets you continue maturing the spirit, bottle it to your own specification, or simply hold it as an asset – with no duty or VAT payable while it remains in the warehouse.
- Transfer of ownership. Once your purchase is complete, ownership of the cask is transferred to you and recorded with the warehouse via a Delivery Order. You receive full documentation confirming you as the legal owner.
- Storage & insurance. The cask remains safely in the bonded warehouse. You take over the storage arrangement directly with the warehouse (currently £70.58 + VAT per year for this cask). The whisky is kept in secure, HMRC-supervised conditions.
- Non-UK buyers. Buyers based outside the UK must appoint a UK Duty Representative to act on their behalf for the transfer of ownership. We can help arrange this if needed.
- Bottling. Whenever you decide to bottle, the cask is removed from bond and UK excise duty and VAT become payable on the finished spirit at that point. Removal and bottling costs are the responsibility of the cask owner, and our team can guide you through the process.
- Continue maturing. There is no rush – the whisky will continue to develop in the cask for as long as you wish to leave it.
Our team will walk you through every step after purchase. If you have any questions before buying, please get in touch.
